Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Greenwood

GREENWOOD, Del. — The Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Dover man early Friday morning in Sussex County.

According to authorities, the crash happened on Friday, August 29, 2025, around 7:00 a.m. on Beach Highway (Route 16), just west of Wedd Farm Road.

Investigators determined that a gray Kawasaki ZX6 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Beach Highway at a high rate of speed. Troopers say the rider attempted to pass two vehicles traveling in the same direction by moving into the eastbound lane.

As the motorcyclist returned to the westbound lane, he lost control of the bike. The motorcycle began to skid uncontrollably, veered off the right side of the road, and crashed into a utility pole. The impact caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but the rider — identified only as a 39-year-old man from Dover — was pronounced dead on site. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No other vehicles were struck during the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including speed and roadway conditions.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have been traveling along Beach Highway near Wedd Farm Road around the time of the incident, to contact Troop 4 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-856-5850.

This fatal crash serves as a reminder of the dangers of excessive speed and risky passing maneuvers, particularly on rural two-lane roads. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of practicing safe and defensive driving, especially for motorcyclists who are more vulnerable in the event of a crash.

The Delaware State Police extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim as the investigation remains ongoing.
