VAN BUREN, ME – The Maine State Police (MSP) are investigating a tragic motor vehicle/pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a young girl in Van Buren on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
At approximately 4:01 p.m., troopers responded to Main Street near Kennedy Terrace after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Details of the Incident
According to investigators, an ambulance operated by the Van Buren Ambulance Service was traveling northbound on Main Street when an 8-year-old girl attempted to cross the roadway. The child, who lived nearby, was struck by the ambulance.
Emergency personnel from the ambulance crew immediately stopped and began providing lifesaving aid to the child. Despite their efforts, she sustained life-threatening injuries and tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the ambulance was not responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash. Initial findings indicate that speed is not believed to have been a factor.

The Van Buren Fire Department, Presque Isle Police Department, and Soderberg Construction assisted Maine State Police at the crash site. The roadway in the area was temporarily closed as investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence.
