SAN JACINTO — Authorities are actively investigating a shooting that occurred near San Jacinto Park on Wednesday evening, prompting a large police presence and a search for suspects. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area while law enforcement secures the scene.
According to preliminary reports, officers were called to the park following multiple 911 calls about shots fired. When units arrived, they located evidence of gunfire, including shell casings scattered near an entrance to the park. At this time, it has not been confirmed how many people may have been injured, but emergency medical personnel responded alongside police.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as families and parkgoers scrambled for safety after the shots rang out. Several said they saw individuals running from the area immediately after the gunfire. Police are now working to determine whether those people were bystanders fleeing danger or suspects attempting to escape.
Investigators have not released any description of the suspects, but multiple agencies are assisting in the search. Officers have set up a perimeter around the park and nearby residential streets as they conduct a block-by-block canvass.
Authorities are asking residents in the area to remain indoors and report any suspicious activity. Drones and K-9 units have also been deployed to help track possible suspects.
Local officials emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages. “We are asking everyone to please stay away from San Jacinto Park and the surrounding neighborhood while our officers do their work,” a police spokesperson said. “The safety of our residents is our top priority, and we need the community’s cooperation.”
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Detectives are expected to review surveillance footage from homes and businesses around the park to help identify those involved.
The park will remain closed until further notice while investigators process the scene.
