GREENE COUNTY, AR — Authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon at the Greene/Craighead County line, prompting a heavy emergency response and road closures in the area.
According to Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, the crash took place at the intersection of Highway 141 South and County Road 326, near the boundary between Greene and Craighead counties. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after reports of the wreck came in.
Emergency Response
Personnel from multiple agencies, including Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies, Arkansas State Police (ASP), Philadelphia Fire Department, Western Greene County Fire Department, and AMMC Ambulance Service, responded to the crash.
Sheriff Snyder confirmed that one person was killed in the accident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family.
“We are asking the public to please avoid the area while first responders work the scene and investigators conduct their work,” Snyder said in a statement.
Investigation Underway
The Arkansas State Police has taken the lead on the crash investigation. While details surrounding what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway remain unclear, officials say they will be reconstructing the accident to determine contributing factors.
Highway 141 near County Road 326 was temporarily closed as authorities cleared the wreckage and documented evidence. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes until further notice.
Community Impact
This stretch of Highway 141 has long been a concern for local residents due to its narrow lanes and limited visibility in certain areas. Wednesday’s fatal crash underscores ongoing safety concerns and has left many in the community grieving.
“Anytime we lose a life on our roads, it’s a tragedy,” Sheriff Snyder said. “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we complete the investigation.”
Authorities will release additional information, including the identity of the victim and possible causes of the crash, once the investigation is complete.
