REMERTON, Ga. — August 27, 2025 — Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a July 5 murder in Remerton, Georgia. Lavernous Arnold, 21, was located and taken into custody on August 26 in Lubbock, Texas, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) reported.
Arnold had been sought in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jaykavion Gary, which occurred in Remerton earlier this summer. The case gained statewide attention as law enforcement worked to locate the suspect following the tragic death of the teenager.
According to previous reports from WALB, Arnold was officially identified as the person of interest in Gary’s murder on August 18. Since that announcement, authorities had been actively searching for him, ultimately tracking him to Texas.
Currently, Arnold is being held in the Lubbock County Jail while authorities coordinate his extradition back to Georgia to face charges related to the July 5 incident. The GBI continues to work closely with local law enforcement in both Georgia and Texas as the case progresses.
The Remerton community continues to mourn the loss of Jaykavion Gary, a 16-year-old whose life was tragically cut short. Law enforcement officials have asked anyone with additional information about the case to come forward.
