Madison County, IN — August 27, 2025 — The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deadly traffic collision that occurred in the 3400 block of North State Road 9 on Wednesday afternoon. The crash, which took place around 2:30 p.m., resulted in the death of 93-year-old Anderson resident James W. Miller.
According to authorities, the incident unfolded when a 2007 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Miller, attempted to cross the multi-lane highway. A northbound 2004 Jeep Wrangler, operated by a 35-year-old Anderson resident, struck the Lincoln upon entry onto the roadway. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Miller was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported to Community Hospital – Anderson for medical treatment. Officials confirmed that no other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash.
The collision prompted a temporary closure of SR 9, which lasted approximately two and a half hours while law enforcement and first responders secured the scene and conducted initial investigations. The highway has since reopened to traffic, though authorities say the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department continues to gather information and urges anyone with details regarding the incident to come forward.
