SHELBY, N.C. — A tragic traffic incident claimed the life of one individual Wednesday morning in Shelby, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on August 27th at the intersection of College Avenue and Skinner Road.
Preliminary reports indicate that the collision involved three vehicles. Troopers explained that one vehicle rear-ended another, which caused the second vehicle to collide head-on with a third vehicle. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they encountered confirmed entrapment. Medic 1, Medic 5, and personnel from the Shanghai Fire Department worked diligently to free the trapped individual.
Unfortunately, one person was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim. No additional injuries have been reported in connection with the crash.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the collision, reviewing the circumstances leading up to the crash to determine contributing factors.
