UPDATE: SUFFOLK POLICE CONFIRM FATAL CRASH – PORTSMOUTH BLVD. CLOSED

SUFFOLK, Va. – Suffolk Police have confirmed that the major crash reported earlier this morning on Portsmouth Boulevard near Van Zandt Parkway involved two vehicles and resulted in a fatality. Authorities say the eastbound lanes of Portsmouth Boulevard will remain closed for a significant period of time as investigators process the scene and clear the roadway.

The incident, which occurred during the busy morning commute, has caused heavy traffic congestion throughout the area. Traffic is currently being diverted onto E. Commuters traveling in and around Suffolk should allow for extra travel time and remain alert to detours and traffic control measures in place.

Emergency crews, including Suffolk Fire & Rescue and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), are assisting at the scene. Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased individual pending notification of next of kin.

Suffolk Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
