Holyoke, MA — The city of Holyoke is mourning the loss of William “Bill” Brunault, who tragically died following a motorcycle accident on Monday afternoon. According to the Holyoke Police Department, the crash occurred at the intersection of Lyman and North Bridge Street shortly before 3:00 PM. Emergency responders transported Brunault to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, with further details expected from the Hampden District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
For those who knew William Brunault, his passing leaves a void that cannot easily be filled. He was known not only as a skilled and passionate motorcyclist but also as a man whose kindness, loyalty, and vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A Life of Care and Connection
Bobbie Kelley, a longtime friend from South Hadley who had known Brunault for nearly 34 years, shared heartfelt memories of their friendship:
“One of the most significant things I remember about him is that he was incredibly caring, and he was often the one to remind us to be cautious when leaving any gathering. He would always tell everyone to give a hug and to be careful on their way home,” Kelley said.
Brunault’s impact on the motorcycle community was equally profound. He was a familiar face at The Clover, a local Holyoke bar, where news of his passing has deeply saddened those who considered him part of their extended family.
“The owner just called me from the Clover, and everyone is deeply saddened by this news,” Kelley added.
A Free Spirit and Dedicated Father
To his daughter Carly Brunault, William was more than just a friend to many — he was Dad, a source of inspiration, and a model of living life with passion and courage.
“He was a wild and free spirit, and that inspired everyone around him,” Carly said, recalling her father’s adventurous nature.
One story that perfectly captured his daring spirit dates back to the 1980s when Brunault participated in a grueling 50-mile dirt bike race in Manchester, Vermont, competing against 280 other riders — and took home first place.
A Friend to All
Donald Orchutt, a lifelong friend who had known Brunault since high school, spoke of his generosity and loyalty:
“All I want to convey is that he has been my friend since high school, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it; he was a kind, loving, and caring individual,” Orchutt shared.
