KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in downtown Kansas City that left two people dead and three others injured early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred near 11th and Grand, was partially captured on video by a nearby surveillance camera.
The footage, now in the hands of investigators, does not show the moment anyone was shot but provides a clear and detailed account of the moments leading up to and following the gunfire, including the chaos as people fled the scene.
The Shooting
At approximately 4:00 a.m., Kansas City police officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the downtown entertainment district. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot at 13th and Grand. He was pronounced deceased at the scene despite efforts from first responders.
Officers quickly located four additional victims with gunshot wounds:
- An adult male who was transported in critical condition and later died at a medical facility.
- A second adult male who sustained serious injuries.
- A juvenile male who suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
- An adult female who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims pending family notifications.
Investigation Underway
Detectives with the Kansas City Police Department’s Homicide Unit are leading the investigation. Officers spent much of the morning canvassing the area, speaking with potential witnesses, and collecting evidence, including the newly obtained video. Forensic experts are actively processing the crime scene, which stretches across several blocks in the heart of downtown.
In a statement, KCPD emphasized their commitment to finding those responsible:
“This is a senseless act of violence in one of our city’s busiest districts. We are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the individuals involved. We urge anyone with information or additional video evidence to contact our Homicide Unit or the TIPS Hotline anonymously.”

The shooting has rattled residents and business owners in downtown Kansas City, many of whom expressed concerns about increasing violence in the area. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recorded video, or has any information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
This marks one of the most violent incidents in Kansas City’s downtown core in 2025, and police are expected to increase patrols in the area as the investigation continues.
