ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD) has announced the arrest of 20-year-old Omari D’Shawn Cornell Battle, of Rocky Mount, in connection with a violent robbery and shooting that occurred in late July.
The incident took place on July 24, 2025, when RMPD responded to reports of a robbery involving gunfire. Following an intensive investigation, warrants were secured on July 25, 2025, charging Battle with Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Attempted Murder, and Discharging a Firearm in the City.
Battle was taken into custody today without incident and is currently awaiting bond. Authorities revealed that at the time of this arrest, Battle was already out on bond for a separate incident stemming from November, involving shooting into an occupied dwelling and assault with a deadly weapon.
Police emphasized that this latest arrest highlights their ongoing efforts to crack down on repeat violent offenders in the community. “This case is an example of the dangers posed by individuals who continue to engage in violent criminal activity,” an RMPD spokesperson said.
The investigation into the July 24th robbery and shooting remains ongoing, as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine whether additional suspects were involved.
