Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in Tanner Shooting

Tanner, AL — The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 40-year-old Lakeshia Renee Peoples of Madison, Alabama, in connection with a Sunday night shooting in Tanner that left one person seriously injured.

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of Stewart Road following reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they discovered that an altercation had escalated into gunfire, leaving a victim with a gunshot wound. The individual was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment. Authorities have not yet released an update on the victim’s condition.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Peoples fled the scene before deputies arrived, prompting a multi-agency search effort that lasted through the night. Investigators processed evidence, gathered witness statements, and developed leads that pointed to a residence in the 13000 block of Arbor Ridge in Madison, Alabama.

On Monday morning, August 25, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., deputies executed a search warrant at the Arbor Ridge residence and located Peoples inside. She was arrested without incident.

Peoples has been charged with Assault, 1st Degree and booked into the Limestone County Detention Facility. A judge will determine her bond at a later date.

Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin praised the quick and coordinated response of deputies and investigators.

“This case is a reminder of the dedication and teamwork within our Sheriff’s Office,” McLaughlin said. “From the deputies who first responded to the scene to the investigators who worked through the night, their coordinated efforts ensured a safe and successful arrest.”

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the altercation and subsequent shooting.
