Roswell Police Investigating Fatal Shooting of 31-Year-Old Man

ROSWELL, N.M. — The Roswell Police Department is investigating the death of 31-year-old Darrin Estephen Johnson, who was shot early Monday morning, August 25, in north Roswell. Authorities are seeking public assistance as the investigation continues.

Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots around 6:50 a.m. near the intersection of North Sherman Avenue and 23rd Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that Johnson had sustained at least one gunshot wound and had sought help by knocking on the door of a nearby residence on the 2300 block of North Sherman Avenue. The residents immediately drove Johnson to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Authorities believe the suspect or suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later located by Roswell Police investigators. No arrests have been made at this time.
