Buncombe Grade School Lockdown Lifted After Juvenile Pellet Gun Incident

BUNCOMBE, Tenn. — Authorities have arrested two juvenile offenders following an incident that prompted a brief lockdown at Buncombe Grade School on Monday morning, according to Mayor Jason Grant.

The situation began when law enforcement received a shots-fired call approximately half a block from the school. Police and emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene, taking immediate action to secure the area. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution while officers investigated the reports.

Mayor Grant confirmed to WFCN News that the suspects were later arrested and identified as juveniles from outside the Buncombe area. Investigators determined that the teens had been involved in criminal damage to property, using a pellet gun to shoot out the windows of a van nearby. At the time of the initial call, it was unclear that a pellet gun was involved, which led to the heightened response.

Following confirmation of the pellet gun involvement and the arrest of the juveniles, the school lockdown was lifted. Mayor Grant reassured the community that residents and students were never in danger, and that the situation was under control.

“There is no reason for residents to be alarmed,” Mayor Grant said. “Our first priority is always the safety of our children, and in this case, the rapid response from law enforcement ensured that everyone remained safe.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances and any additional charges that may be warranted. Parents and students have expressed relief that the situation was resolved without injury.

This event serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and quick communication between schools, local authorities, and the community. Officials emphasized that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to ensure safety.

Residents with information about the incident or related activity are encouraged to contact the Buncombe Police Department.
