EAST RIDGE, Tenn. — A deadly shooting on Monday afternoon has left one person dead and another critically injured, according to Chief Clint Uselton of the East Ridge Police Department.
Police were dispatched to a shots-fired call on Roper Street shortly after 3 p.m., where they discovered the aftermath of the violent incident. Responding officers confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Chief Uselton reported that the suspects, described as two Black males, fled the scene in a black sedan. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the individuals responsible.
At this time, police have not released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“The safety of our community is our top priority,” Chief Uselton said. “We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the suspects to contact the East Ridge Police Department immediately. Your assistance is critical in bringing those responsible to justice.”
Residents in the area reported hearing gunfire and seeing a heavy police presence shortly after the shooting. Community members expressed shock and concern over the incident. “It’s scary to think something like this can happen in broad daylight,” one resident said. “We hope the police catch those responsible quickly.”
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the suspects’ vehicle, movements, or any other details to contact the East Ridge Police Department. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through local Crime Stoppers programs.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have promised to provide updates as new information becomes available.
