Homicide Investigation Underway Following Deadly Double Shooting in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Authorities have launched a homicide investigation after a deadly double shooting rocked a New Haven neighborhood Monday afternoon.

According to the New Haven Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire on Dickerman Street shortly before 2:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel immediately provided aid and transported both victims to a local hospital.

Tragically, police confirmed that one of the victims succumbed to their injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family. The second victim’s condition has not been disclosed.

The shooting has sparked heightened concern among residents in the area, as this incident adds to a troubling rise in gun violence across Connecticut cities this year.

In a separate but equally devastating case, authorities in New Britain reported that a 42-year-old man was shot and killed in a separate incident. It remains unclear whether there is any connection between the two shootings, but investigators in both cities are working diligently to gather information.

New Haven police stated that detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Identification processed the scene on Dickerman Street throughout the afternoon, collecting shell casings, canvassing for surveillance footage, and speaking with potential witnesses.

“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area or who has video footage to come forward,” said Officer Scott Shumway, a spokesperson for the department. “These crimes devastate families and communities, and we will not rest until those responsible are held accountable.”

Residents described hearing multiple gunshots before seeing a heavy police presence flood the neighborhood. “It’s scary,” one local resident said. “We’ve had shootings before, but in the middle of the day like this? It’s terrifying for families who just want to live in peace.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact New Haven Police at (203) 946-6304 or submit tips anonymously through 1-866-888-TIPS (8477).

The investigation remains active and ongoing as the community grapples with yet another senseless act of violence.
