BATON ROUGE, La. — A violent confrontation early Sunday morning turned deadly when Jonique Brown, 36, was fatally shot during a chaotic scene on Plank Road.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), officers responded to the 3400 block of Plank Road shortly before 4 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered Brown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities say the deadly gunfire erupted following a large fight that broke out among several people in the area. Police believe that multiple individuals opened fire during the altercation, creating confusion and panic as shots rang out. Investigators have not yet determined how many weapons were involved or what sparked the initial dispute.
At this time, BRPD has not named any suspects or made arrests in connection with the shooting. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and speaking with witnesses who were present when the violence broke out.
Brown’s death marks another tragic loss for her loved ones and adds to the growing concerns about escalating gun violence in Baton Rouge. Community members have expressed frustration about the frequency of shootings in the city, particularly those tied to large gatherings and disputes that turn deadly.
